We have systems that will tell us when an earthquake is likely to happen, elaborate weather forecasts to tell us how our weather is about to change. We have extensive news media reports to tell us what is happening in the world and plenty of places that review new technologies.
Yet, in some ways we still don’t seem to see the obvious.
Let me tell you a story…
Recently I visited my friend Joe at his restaurant. We had a good chat about what had happened since we met last. While we were standing there, I asked Joe to look around at the restaurant patrons and tell me what he saw.
The restaurant was pretty much full, given it was lunch time, with an average crowd.
Joe takes a look and says, “Well, we are pretty full and everyone seems to be busy having their lunch.”
Then I said, “Take a closer look, what are your customers doing?”
Joe says, “Well, some of them are eating and a few are on their cellphones.”
In my estimate, the few he mentioned were more like half of them.
Then I said to him “What if you knew the cell numbers of all those customers and were able to send them marketing messages, right to those phones?”
Joe says “Yeah, that would be pretty neat.”
Then I said. “What if you could do that right from your cellphone?”
Joe says, “Wow, that would be really cool.”
